Just a Few of My Favorite Things...

Great Healthy Christmas gifts and things to add to

your wish list!

It's that time of year again and if you're like me and still need to do some major shopping, the time crunch can be quite stressful! I usually don't have any issues buying for my runner/health nut friends though (no surprise there!). My hobby and passion lies in all things running and health, so if I'm an expert in anything, it's trying out all the products related to this.

I'm just going to jump right in and start listing my go-to items and why I love them so much.   Add these to your wish list and/or buy some of these for the active people in your life!

  1. When you're working up a good sweat, clothing is super important. You want clothes that are made of material that is wicking, pulling sweat away from your body. This is especially important when you're outside and it's super hot or super cold. Some of my very favorite atheletic wear is LuLuLemon (specifically the speed shorts!), Glyder (killer leggings, although they do run a little on the longer side-that's not saying much thought, as I'm only 5'2"), Oiselle (love their visors and tops), and Zensah compression socks and calf sleeves. Some tips that will help you dress for your workout: you will always warm up when exercising, so be sure you can shed some layers, keep your core and head warm when exercising in the cold, wear your workout clothes around before exercising in them to be sure they feel comfortable. 

2. Shoes. This is a biggie, ya'll. It is one of the most important items to ensure you stay injury free and your body healthy. I know people like to order online and buy what's on sale, but my suggestion would be to go to your local shoe store and get fitted based on your workout needs and foot structure. Also, be sure to change out your shoes often and keep a track of the wear on them. Worn out shoes can cause serious problems! Some of my favorite shoes are the Kinvara and the Freedom ISO (both by Saucony).

3. Finding the right hydration that sits well with your gut and gives you enough electrolytes to support your workouts is key. I find that products with artificial sugars and caffiene tear my stomach up. I try and stick with all natural products during training in order to keep from taking unecessary potty stops! Here are some of my favorite electrolyte drinks and gels/supplements: Nuun Hydration- love all the flavors and the fizziness! The tablets come in fun little tubes you can reuse for other things too!, Huma Plus gels- all natural and great to use for long runs and/or before workouts. The gels seems lighter than others and the flavors taste much better to me too. They contain Chia seeds which naturally give you energy, which is a bonus!, UCan Nutrition is another great product you can use as a pre and post workout drink. There's no added sugar, and it's gluten free and vegan. Very easy on the gut and gives you a ton of energy (I always have 1 scoop with vanilla almond milk before a long run/race). The taste isn't terrible, but certainly not my favorite.

Workout gear that you can use at home or on vacation is always a winner! I take my set of resistance bands and a set of light weights with me when I'm low on time, can't get to the gym, or vacation. These are always a must-have for the active person! Over sized water bottles, protein shaker cups, healthy cookbooks, gym memberships, exercise DVDS, a yoga mat are all great gifts to help you stay on track too.
